Partial Replacement of Cationic Starch by Cationic Hardwood Kraft Lignin Does Not Compromise Key Paper Properties

چکیده
Competition issues with food industry have recently boosted the exploration of alternative solutions capable replacing starch in papermaking to a certain extent. Covalent grafting quaternary ammonium groups onto LignoBoost® Eucalyptus kraft lignin has shown promise this regard as cationic products feature excellent water solubility across entire pH scale. Considering these suitable properties, was applied and evaluated, for first time, perspective partial substitution papermaking, using bleached pulp. Based on an assessment key paper such mechanical (tensile, bursting, tearing indexes), structural (roughness, capillarity rise, air resistance, internal strength, contact angle), optical ones (brightness, opacity, relative color change), it is safe conclude that replacement conventional by does not compromise features. The results also show properties can be fine-tuned varying degree derivatization, providing paper-specific potentially available at large-scale pulp industry, closing loop within circular economy concept.

Pre-flocculation of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate Filler by Cationic Starch for Highly Filled Mechanical Grade Paper
Three commercial starches were evaluated in conjunction with colloidal silica and flocculant to retain precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) filler. A unique feature of this study was the fact that the filler was pre-flocculated by a portion of starch (2kg starch/t PCC) and the rest of the starch was added after the flocculant but before the silica. The pulp used was peroxide bleached thermo-mec...
متن کاملHydrophobicity of Lime Sludge Filled Paper Assisted by a Cationic Starch/CPAM/Bentonite Retention Aids System
Lime sludge is a special type of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) recovered from black liquor, which can be used as paper filler in the paper-making process. However, one of the biggest problems when lime sludge is used as filler is that it is difficult to hydrophobically size the filled paper, especially in the case of paper with high filler content. Also, the efficient retention of the si...

متن کاملBulky Paper from Chemically Crosslinked Hardwood Kraft Pulp Fibers
There is a general interest among paper and board makers to produce lighter and bulkier paper and board products. The aim of the present study was to characterize chemically crosslinked hardwood kraft fibers regarding their potential in making bulky paper and board. Crosslinking agents are molecules that contain two or more reactive ends that form inter-chain covalent bonds with cellulosic hydr...
